Marcus Hudson uses EBC’s Green kart pads in the Super 4 national series
Kart racer Marcus Hudson is once again relying on EBC Brakes’ components to help him with his Northern Karting Federation Super 4 British Championship campaign for another year.
Hudson chooses EBC’s Green kart pads and BF005.1 silicone fluid for his fiery ABKC 250cc National kart.
One of the first outings of the year took the roadshow to Lincolnshire’s Fulbeck Kart Club, where Hudson was able to secure his first ever British Championship heat win. You can read how the weekend unfolded in his own words below.
Heat 1 (grid: 10th)
“Conditions were wet and from the start. I moved up to 7th, passing a kart going off the circuit due to the wet conditions. Unfortunately, due to major understeer and traction issues during the race, I lost two positions. I managed to gain the position I lost two laps later, finishing in 8th place. Back in the paddock, we made some major changes to the chassis setup to help with the issues we had in this heat.”
Heat 2 (grid: 2nd)
“The weather was changeable and when on the dummy grid, the 16-strong field of karts were split between slicks and wets as their tyre of choice. The track was greasy but dry. I started 2nd on wets and was right behind the leader from the off – the kart would now do what I wanted. I was all over the back of the leader and being blocked at every corner, but I could put the kart exactly where I wanted and knew I could pass whenever. I chose my moment on the second lap to make the pass for the lead going through Turn 5; a left-handed 90-degree corner. Once in front, I pulled out a large gap of 7.8 seconds, but with the large gap I controlled my pace on the wets as the circuit was drying and won the race by just over 2.6 seconds. It was great to be running in the lead again.”
Heat 3 (Grid: 14th)
“We tried something different in this heat to see if it worked or not as we were near the tail-end of the grid. Heat 3 was dry and I started 14th. In the first couple of laps, I made my way up to 9th and that’s where we finished. The handling wasn’t quite what we wanted unfortunately but we tried it and learnt from it.”
Final
“I lined up in 5th for the final and finished in 6th place after the final was cut short by a few laps with the red flag being waved due to a crash. Luckily, no one involved was seriously injured.”
“It was a great weekend, claiming my first British Championship heat win. It was also a productive weekend understanding the new Le Count tyres that we are using this season and getting the kart working well in the changeable conditions. Next stop is Shenington in Oxfordshire – stay tuned to hear more!
