Justin Roberts and Mike Heath are racing in the MSVT Trackday Championship

Justin Roberts and Mike Heath are sharing the seat of their EP3 Honda Civic Type R race car this year in the MSVT Trackday Championship. In 2021, Roberts secured his class win in the series for that year.

The car proudly sports an EBC Brakes Racing Apollo Big Brake Kit, with the duo opting for the much-loved RP-X™ brake pad formula until recently.

The latest round on Brands Hatch’s iconic GP circuit was a chance for the duo to try out EBC’s latest SR-11™ sintered motorsport endurance pads – promising even more braking performance and stability under hard-hitting conditions.

You can read how their weekend went down below in their own words.

“We turned up at the Super Tourers meeting with a repaired car and a completely new setup, not to mention we’d be trying the new EBC Brakes Racing SR-11™ brake pads for the first time.

“Neither Mike nor Justin had ever been round the infamous Brands Hatch GP layout. Mike had never driven Brands at all. So, with a 25-minute qualifying session to learn the track and put a quick time in, it was going to be 12 minutes each for them both.

“Mike started the session and found a touch too much to learn in his 12 minutes of track time and handed it over in 18th place of the 43 car-strong field. Justin had a slight advantage as he lapped the Indy circuit on several occasions, but with the safety car deployed as he entered his first lap, this massively hindered their overall grid position. With only two minutes on the clock left as the safety car pulled in, Justin could only improve to P14.

“This didn’t disappoint the pair as they noticed a massive difference in the Honda Civic type R. A brand new setup by Motion Motorsport transformed the handling and the added stopping power of the EBC SR-11™ brake pads was hugely noticeable.”

“Mike started the race and quickly moved up to 10th after two laps, smashing his fastest quali time on every lap. Just as he was getting comfortable with the car and circuit, the safety car came out. Knowing the pit window was extremely close, he pitted to maximise the advantage to change drivers.

“Justin re-joined in 31st place, and by the time most cars came in and out the pits on the following lap, they were in the lead. The safety car ended and the circuit went green, Justin held on to the top spot til the chequered flag, BUT – their pit stop was approximately 10 seconds outside the pit stop window and a two-lap penalty was added, resulting in a 30th-place finish. All the same, the lads were over the moon to have had pace in the car overall, and really looking forward to the next round at their home circuit of Oulton Park. They’ve both had one or two races at the Cheshire circuit so will be hoping for a much better starting position.

“A huge thanks to Powered Access Services, EBC Brakes and RAC Air-Conditioning for their continued support. Also Motion-Motorsport for their efforts at turning out such a well-prepared car.”
